Well, unofficially. My number's on the list of numbers accepted on the website, so hooray! I guess I should introduce myself first!
I'm Natalie, 3rd year Japanese/Media Studies major. I applied through direct enrollment instead of the exchange, so that's why I just found out that I'm going. It's been such a long wait, I'm glad I can switch over to I'm-really-going-now mode!
I think my housing info and everything will be coming in the mail with my acceptance letter sometime this week, and I'll start looking at travel options then. Flying over together would be amaaazziing and I know my parents would feel a lot better about it that way =) I'd seen some of the guesthouse sites before and it looks pretty cool, but my concern would be that we would only need it for like a week, but it looks like they mostly want people staying for at least a month. Maybe there are different ones that are more hotel-like that you can just check in and out of pretty quick.
As for what Jen asked about housing and meal plan contracts, I emailed housing last month about this, and they said that when I found out if I was going to be abroad to just e-mail them and they would release me from my contract (you still get your room next year if you did the housing contract last month though).
As for dining, I think maybe it's at this site. It says the deadline was September 4th, but I think that only means if it was changes for the Fall semester. I have written down somewhere that January 23rd is the deadline. It'd probably be wise to e-mail them too just to be safe.
This blog looks like it's going to be a good place to share resources and concerns and excitement, hooray! I'm asking for the kanji dictionary "game" for DS for Christmas. =D
One last thing! According to the site, since I'm non-degree, I'll be placed in:
Sophia Enoki Women's Dormitory
54-1 Minamienoki-cho,
Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 162-0852
I think this is the website of the company in charge of the dorm? Does anyone have the address for the DK dorms? I wanna find out how close/far away they are from each other! I hope they're not too far away from campus. Eep, now I'm too excited to study for finals!

CONGRATULATIONS NATALIE!!!!!
THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!
Yay, our group is complete.
My parents would also probably feel better about me traveling with others, though I've traveled by myself plenty of times...
I'm actually visiting Japan this winter and was going to try to check out some guest houses because Issamu actually stayed there instead of a dorm. I'm looking into that especially if it'll be cheaper and there aren't rules about curfew and stuff. But then I'm not sure if Sophia would let me withdraw from their housing.
I gotta get to work now, I'll see some of yall at the 310 exam!
Congrats again!!
YAY!!!
muchos congrats natalie!
whoop whoop. now we can allllllll play! hahaha. well, i feel like i definitely overstudied for J310. my brain's all sorts of mush and yuck right now.
so, we should be hearing about our homes in the next week or so, eh? yay! i hope i get homestay, but even if i don't, places to go, people to see, vacations to plan! we should do a cross airline comparison to see which planes are the most bang for our bucks! also, travel agency people connections.... isn't it supposed to be cheaper through them? i know a couple people so i'll ask around and see what i can pull off.
wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
