...it's time to move on to the 51st! Haha, I just hate to see Natalie's beautiful post complete with a celebratory picture get moved down.
Anyway I wanted to let you know that I will be trying to do the visa thing next week, and hopefully write about how that goes. Although I do already have some information: Visa applications (though available on the site, you can do at the embassy in person anyway) are only taken from 9:30am-12:30pm Monday through Friday, though when it's ready, you can pick it up outside of that time frame. 3-4 day turnaround time. Be sure to have the address of where you'll be staying in Japan on hand (I'm probably just going to bring my entire Sophia packet just in case I need other information)....or just fill out the application form ahead of time :) And of course whatever else the Sophia packet lists, though the site says we only need one 2x2 picture for the application form (I guess since one is on the COE already). Anyway, guess that means I gotta go take one...I hope it's okay if the picture's different from the COE one...

Interesting, interesting.. A lovely topic for the first post of the new... 50thenium.
So does all that mean you guys have already gotten your COE's? I'm still waiting on mine, but it's been promised by the end of the month! Maybe that's what you mean..
I guess I'm not for sure how this works.. but do you have to go do it in person, or can you do it via mail? I'm about three hours from the nearest consulate, and it's two states away! Haha..
o different picture doesn't matter!
If you want to get your passport mailed back to you instead of having to go back to the embassy to pick it up you should bring a prepaid express mail envelope (though traveling costs to DC are still probably cheaper than a $17 express mail envelope)(except if an embassy is two states away...)
Ironically, due to my location, the consulate with jurisdiction over my state (Chicago) is 8 hours away from me, while the one that is two states away (Nashville) is only 3 hours. Oh hooray! Chicago's site says I can do it by mail, sweet =)
I was reading this page about a guy who wanted to study in Greece, and he lives in Alaska so the closest consulate is in San Francisco?!?! And they had aalll these crazy forms he needed to have, like health stuff, and an record that showed he had an absence of a criminal record, it was ridiculous! I'd say everybody just triple check on every form they say you need, and then bring any extra forms you can think of that anyone might ever want from you x__x Some of the ones that made more sense were like.. school acceptance letter and proof of funds.. hopefully the COE will take care of some of that stuff!
BTW, the DK House people are so super nice! And their English is adorable! I just scanned and sent them a copy of my "receipt" (it says receipt, but the lady calls the carbon copy the receipt..and I don't have it yet) and said I'd fax them the rest of the stuff later and asked for their fax number, and they were all, nah that's cool, this is good. What do you wanna do about bedding? lol.
Oh really? So did you just email the 'receipt' of the wire transfer to them? Cuz I'm getting a bit worried about the international faxing bit...
And YEAH. Bedding. Over $100 seems kinda ridiculous to pay per month (I couldn't find the info on purchasing it instead of renting btw), but then we also don't know what kind of bedding it is but they're like you can purchase it for cheaper in stores probably (but we just won't have it for the first night). Also on the DK info sheet, it says mattress optional...so does that mean bedding is like futon and mattress is a Western-style mattress in case you need to have that?
And I hope your COE comes soon! End of month is soon anyway! Yeah, we got ours in our packet of stuff.
